Questions and answers

Frequently asked questions

Plain answers to the questions we hear most often about VoIP, hosted phone systems, trunks, and replacing copper lines.

What does Valley VoIP do?

Valley VoIP provides voice over IP phone service nationwide. Our services are hosted voice and phone systems, SIP trunks, PRI trunks, analog lines, analog line replacement, and cellular voice service.

What is VoIP?

VoIP stands for voice over internet protocol. It carries telephone calls as data over an internet connection instead of over traditional copper telephone lines, which lowers cost and makes possible features that old lines cannot offer.

Where is Valley VoIP located, and where do you provide service?

Valley VoIP is based in Las Vegas, Nevada, and provides phone service nationwide.

Are the phones really free with hosted voice?

Yes. For hosted voice, we provide the phones and all of the equipment for free. You pay for the phone service, not for the hardware.

Can I keep my existing phone numbers?

In most cases, yes. Local and toll-free numbers can usually be transferred, or ported, to Valley VoIP, so your customers continue to call the same numbers.

What is the difference between hosted voice and SIP trunks?

With hosted voice, the phone system runs in the cloud and we provide the phones and equipment. With SIP trunks, you keep your own phone system and we provide the lines that connect it to the telephone network.

What is the difference between SIP trunks and a PRI?

Both connect a phone system to the telephone network. A PRI is a digital circuit that carries 23 calls and suits established phone systems. SIP trunks deliver calls over an internet connection and can be sized to any number of simultaneous calls.

What is analog line replacement?

Analog line replacement, also called POTS replacement, provides a standard dial tone to equipment such as fire alarm panels, elevator phones, and fax machines without using an old copper telephone line.

Why are my copper phone lines becoming so expensive?

Telephone carriers are retiring their copper networks and are no longer required to offer those lines at regulated prices. Many have raised rates substantially or announced that the lines will be discontinued.

Will my fax machine, alarm panel, or elevator phone still work?

Yes. Analog lines and analog line replacement are intended for exactly that equipment. For fire alarm and elevator lines, we coordinate with your alarm and elevator companies so the solution meets local requirements.

What do I need for hosted voice?

A reliable broadband internet connection. We provide the phones and equipment, and we will review your connection with you before installation.

What happens if my internet or power goes out?

Because a hosted phone system runs in the cloud, your calls can be redirected to mobile phones or to another location when your office is unreachable. Cellular service can also provide a backup path.

Can employees use the phone system from home or from a mobile phone?

Yes. With hosted voice, employees can use a desk phone at home, a computer, or a mobile phone, and all of them work as extensions of the same system.
