PRI Trunks
PRI trunks for the phone systems that depend on them.
Many established phone systems were built to connect through a PRI, and they continue to work well. Valley VoIP provides PRI trunks so that those systems can stay in service, with a clear path to newer technology when you are ready.
What a PRI is
PRI stands for Primary Rate Interface. It is a digital connection that carries 23 voice channels, and one channel for signaling, on a single circuit. For decades it has been the standard way to connect a business phone system, or PBX, to the telephone network, and a great many systems in hospitals, hotels, schools, and offices still rely on it.
Why organizations still choose PRI
A working phone system represents a large investment in equipment, programming, and staff habits. Where that system has a PRI interface and no support for newer connections, a PRI trunk is the simplest way to keep it in service. Nothing about the system has to be reconfigured, and nothing changes for the people who use it.
The features a PBX expects
A PRI delivers the capabilities that established phone systems are designed around: direct inward dialing so that each extension can have its own number, caller ID name and number, and clear digital call quality across all 23 channels. Additional circuits can be added for larger systems.
A bridge to what comes next
Choosing a PRI today does not lock you in. Valley VoIP also provides SIP trunks and hosted voice, so when your phone system reaches the end of its life, we can move you to newer service and keep your phone numbers the same.

Questions
Common questions
How many calls can a PRI carry?
A PRI circuit carries 23 voice channels, which means up to 23 simultaneous calls. Larger phone systems can use more than one circuit.
Should I choose a PRI or SIP trunks?
If your phone system supports SIP, SIP trunks usually offer more flexibility. If your system only has a PRI interface, a PRI trunk keeps it working without any changes. Valley VoIP provides both and can help you decide.
